The
farm is run following the principles of integrated farm management
in order to help the wildlife population and care for the environment,
while still using modern technology. We are members of the Countryside
Stewardship Scheme under which we have established beetle banks
and uncropped headlands, and include fallow areas in order to boost
bird numbers. We also belong to FWAG (Farming and Wildlife Advisory
Group) and LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming).
In
March and April watch the young lambs playing in the front fields
from your bedroom. Guests are also welcome to visit the lambing
barn.
We have just started a small herd of pedigree Sussex cattle. The calves will remain with their mothers until they are weaned at about 6 months old. The heifers will then be added to the herd and the bulls sold, either to be grown on for meat or for breeding.

The
arable crops, wheat, barley, oil seed rape, peas, lupins etc are
planted either in the autumn or spring and harvested from July through
to October.
We have started the conversion process to organic status on all the grassland, enabling us to produce organic lamb and beef in a few years time.
We
also have on the farm Trixie, our working sheep dog who is also
a pet and Patch, a very friendly cat who likes to come for walks
around the lake.
Places
of interest within easy reach include Leeds Castle (5 miles), Sissinghurst
Gardens, Canterbury, Rye, Tenterden, Ashford International Station
(for Eurostar trains to the continent), Channel Tunnel and Channel
ports.
